We work across six disciplines: mechanical, civil, electrical, mechatronics, instrumentation and process engineering. In practice this means a single Malanc team can handle the concrete, the pipework, the pump set, the motor control centre and the telemetry on the same pump station, rather than you appointing and coordinating four separate specialists.

Yes. We are based at Unit P408 Lifestyle Estate, South Hills, Johannesburg, and we mobilise to sites across all nine provinces. A significant portion of our water infrastructure work has been executed in Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West. Travel, accommodation and site establishment are priced transparently as preliminaries so you can see exactly what mobilisation costs.

That is one of our core models. We take a defined mechanical, electrical or civil package off a principal contractor's hands and run it as our own — labour, plant, supervision, safety file, method statements, quality records and progress reporting included. Our clients typically appoint us precisely because it removes management load, not just labour cost.

For a defined scope with drawings or a bill of quantities, we generally return a priced submission within three to five working days. Where the scope needs a site inspection first, we arrange the visit within a week and price from there. Urgent tender deadlines can usually be accommodated if you flag them when you enquire.

An itemised price against a defined scope, with quantities, rates, preliminaries and, importantly, clearly stated exclusions. We would rather have an awkward conversation about an exclusion at tender stage than a contractual dispute at claim stage. Where a provisional sum is unavoidable we say so and explain the assumption behind it.

Yes. We produce tender-standard drawing sets so that every bidder prices the same scope, generate measured bills of quantities from drawings, and assist contractors with rate build-ups and technical pricing on specialist engineering elements. This can be appointed as a standalone service without any construction commitment.

Daily site diaries recording labour, plant, weather, deliveries and progress; weekly progress reports against the programme; and monthly reports with photographs, programme status, a look-ahead and any issues requiring a client decision. Reporting is treated as a deliverable of the contract, not an administrative afterthought.

Every project mobilises with a site-specific safety file containing the safety plan, risk assessments, method statements, appointment letters, competency records and emergency procedures. Toolbox talks are held and recorded, and no task begins before its risk assessment is signed off. We comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Construction Regulations.

Yes. Electrical installation work is tested and issued with the appropriate certificate of compliance by a registered person, and installations are executed in accordance with SANS 10142 for wiring of premises. Motor control centres and control panels are built and tested to the relevant SANS and IEC panel standards before delivery.

In sequence: bulk earthworks and subgrade preparation, blinding, base slab with waterstops, wall steel fixing and shutter cycles, roof slab and columns, then mechanical and electrical fit-out of inlet, outlet, scour, overflow and level instrumentation. The structure is then filled in stages and subjected to a watertightness test with measured drop against the specified allowance before disinfection and commissioning.

It depends heavily on whether civil works are in the scope. A mechanical and electrical fit-out into an existing structure — pump sets, manifolds, valves, MCC and commissioning — is typically four to eight weeks. A complete new pump house including civils, building, mechanical, electrical and telemetry is more commonly four to eight months. We commit to a programme only after we have seen the site.

Yes. Motor control centres, distribution boards and control panels are built, wired, labelled and functionally tested in our own facility rather than bought in. This gives us direct control over lead time and quality, and it means a panel arrives on site tested and ready to energise rather than requiring rework.

Chilled water systems including chillers, pumps, headers, air handling units and fan coil units; VRV and VRF systems; ducting, fans and air distribution; and the associated controls. We also hold planned maintenance contracts covering scheduled servicing, filter and belt replacement, refrigerant checks, coil cleaning and performance verification.

Because a chilled water system rarely fails suddenly — it degrades. Fouled coils, drifting refrigerant charge, failed sensors and unbalanced flow quietly raise energy consumption for months before anyone notices a comfort complaint. By the time a fault becomes visible you have usually already paid more in electricity than the maintenance contract would have cost.

Yes. We install level, flow and pressure instrumentation, wire it into panel-mounted controllers, and integrate the data into telemetry or SCADA systems so that reservoir levels, pump run status and alarms are visible remotely. For municipalities this converts a reactive maintenance model into a monitored one.

Layer works, reinforced concrete, brickwork, steel fixing, waterproofing and pipe laying are all self-performed with our own supervision. We do not subcontract the core of a water-retaining structure, because concrete quality and joint detailing are precisely where these structures fail.

Yes. Structural repair, plastering, screeds, tiling, painting, ceilings, wet services and finishes on commercial and public buildings. This work often accompanies a mechanical or electrical upgrade, and clients find it simpler to keep builder's work with the same contractor rather than coordinating a separate trade.

You receive as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, equipment data sheets, test and commissioning certificates, electrical certificates of compliance, warranties and, where relevant, operator training. The snag list is closed out and walked with you before practical completion is claimed, not after.

Yes. We support our installations through the defects liability period and offer ongoing planned maintenance thereafter on pumps, rotating equipment, HVAC plant and building services. A meaningful share of our work comes from clients we originally handed a project over to.

Send your drawings, specification, tender documents or simply a description of the problem through the quote request form, email inquiries@malanc.co.za, or call 063 839 4390. An engineer will review it and come back to you — usually within one business day — with either a price, a request for the information we still need, or an honest answer that another specialist would serve you better.
