Overview

Rotating equipment, pipework and plant — installed by the people who will commission it.

Mechanical engineering is where Malanc Projects started and it remains the discipline that most of our other work orbits. A pump station is a mechanical problem wearing a concrete jacket; a plant room is a mechanical problem with an electrical supply. We treat it accordingly.

Our mechanical teams install and commission rotating equipment, fabricate and erect pipework, build out plant rooms, and maintain the assets afterwards. Work is executed by our own supervised crews, not brokered to a third party, which is why we are willing to put alignment tolerances and commissioning results in writing.

Pump installation and commissioning
Booster, borehole, sewer, dewatering and fire duty pump sets — set, grouted, aligned to manufacturer tolerance and commissioned against the design duty point rather than simply switched on.
Pipe fabrication and installation
Steel spools, bends, headers and manifolds fabricated to drawing in our workshop or on site, then erected, flanged, aligned and supported correctly.
Plant room construction and fit-out
Complete mechanical plant rooms including equipment layout, pipework reticulation, valves, strainers, supports, insulation and instrumentation.
Rotating equipment installation
Motors, gearboxes, drives and couplings installed and aligned, with baseplate grouting and vibration checks forming part of the acceptance record.
Valves, actuators and specials
Gate, butterfly, non-return, air release and control valves supplied, installed and function tested, including actuated arrangements.
Mechanical maintenance
Planned and reactive maintenance on pumps, rotating equipment and plant services, with condition reporting rather than just a service sticker.
Industrial maintenance and shutdown support
Additional supervised mechanical capacity during shutdowns and turnarounds, mobilised at short notice.
Equipment relocation and re-installation
Decommissioning, moving and recommissioning of mechanical plant during facility changes or upgrades.
Mechanical CAD and design advisory
Layouts, general arrangements, hydraulic checks and equipment selection input where design capacity is stretched.

Commissioned to duty point

We record flow, pressure and current at commissioning and compare them against the design duty. An installation that does not reach duty is not complete.

Alignment done properly

Laser or dial alignment on coupled sets, correct baseplate grouting and soft-foot checks. Most premature bearing and seal failure traces back to this step being rushed.

Full commissioning records

Test sheets, equipment data, settings and as-installed information handed over so the asset can be operated and maintained without guesswork.

Own supervised crews

Mechanical fitters working under our own supervision, not labour brokered in and left to interpret the drawing themselves.

Nationwide mobilisation

Teams, tools and lifting equipment mobilised to sites in all nine provinces from our Johannesburg base.

Lifting and safety discipline

Rigging studies, certified lifting equipment and appointed operators for every lift. Nothing is picked up on improvisation.

Site inspection and survey

We measure what is actually there, not what the drawing says is there. Existing pipework, plinths, levels and access routes are recorded before anything is priced.

Design review and fabrication drawings

Design intent is checked for buildability and converted into fabrication and installation drawings your team can sign off.

Workshop fabrication

Spools, supports and specials are fabricated and, where required, tested before they reach site — reducing site time and disruption.

Installation and alignment

Equipment set, grouted and aligned; pipework erected, supported and connected without inducing strain on pump flanges.

Frequently asked.

Both. We can install client-supplied or consultant-specified equipment, or we can supply the full package. Where we supply, we will tell you plainly what the selection trade-offs are — efficiency at duty point, availability of spares in South Africa, and realistic lead times — rather than simply quoting whatever is cheapest to procure.

Manufacturer specification, verified by laser or dial gauge and recorded on the commissioning sheet. We also check soft foot and confirm that pipework is not imposing strain on the pump flanges, which is one of the most common causes of premature seal and bearing failure in municipal pump stations.

Often, yes, but it changes the method and the price. We plan phased isolation, temporary bypasses or out-of-hours working, and we say up front which parts genuinely require a shutdown window. Pretending an outage is not needed helps nobody.

Yes. Because we manufacture motor control centres and carry electrical capability in-house, a pump installation can be delivered complete — mechanical, electrical, controls and telemetry — under one appointment and one project manager.

Planned maintenance contracts covering scheduled inspection, vibration and temperature checks, seal and bearing replacement, and performance verification, plus reactive call-out support. Maintenance visits produce a condition report, not just a signature on a job card.
