Overview

Concrete, steel and earthworks for structures that have to hold water.

Most of our civil work is water-retaining or water-carrying, which raises the standard considerably. A slab in a warehouse that cracks is a maintenance item. A reservoir wall that cracks is a structure that has to be emptied, investigated and repaired — usually at the contractor's cost and always at the client's inconvenience.

We self-perform the core civil trades: layer works, reinforced concrete, brickwork, steel fixing, waterproofing and pipe laying. We do not subcontract the elements that determine whether a water-retaining structure performs, because cover control, joint detailing, waterstop continuity and curing discipline are exactly where these structures fail.

Reinforced concrete works
Bases, walls, suspended slabs, columns and water-retaining structures with controlled mix design, placement, compaction and curing.
Steel fixing
Reinforcement cut, bent, fixed and supported with proper cover control, correct laps and continuous waterstop detailing at construction joints.
Layer works
Subgrade preparation, selected fill, sub-base and base layers placed and compacted to specified density, with testing to prove it.
Brickwork and blockwork
Structural and non-structural masonry for pump houses, valve chambers, plant rooms and buildings.
Waterproofing
Membrane, cementitious and joint waterproofing systems applied to specification on roofs, basements, water-retaining structures and wet areas.
Pipe laying
Bulk mains and reticulation laid to line and level, jointed, bedded and backfilled in compacted layers, then pressure tested.
Excavation and earthworks
Bulk and detailed excavation, shoring, dewatering, and backfill within a controlled temporary works regime.
Pump houses and valve chambers
Complete structures from excavation through concrete, masonry, roof and finishes, ready for mechanical and electrical fit-out.
Concrete repair and rehabilitation
Investigation, breaking out, reinforcement treatment and patch repair of degraded reinforced concrete structures.

Setting out and survey

Levels and positions established from the survey control, checked independently before any excavation begins.

Earthworks and subgrade

Excavation to formation, proof rolling, and placement and compaction of selected layers with density testing.

Reinforcement and formwork

Steel fixed to drawing with verified cover and laps; formwork erected to a designed arrangement and inspected before pour.

Concrete placement

Mix design confirmed, placement rate and compaction controlled, cubes taken, and a curing regime applied and maintained.

Whatever the specification requires. For water-retaining structures we typically work with designed mixes selected for low permeability and controlled heat of hydration rather than headline strength alone, and we manage placement rate, compaction and curing to limit early thermal cracking. Cube results are provided as part of the quality record.

Through detailing and discipline rather than remedial coatings. Continuous waterstops at every construction joint, controlled cover to reinforcement, planned pour sequences that avoid unnecessary joints, proper compaction, and a curing regime that is actually maintained rather than assumed. Coatings are a supplement, never the primary defence.

Yes. Density testing on compacted layers and cube testing on concrete are carried out through an accredited laboratory and the results form part of the quality file handed over at completion. Where a result falls short, the affected work is reworked rather than argued about.

Yes. Many of our civil appointments are standalone — a reservoir, a pump house structure, a channel or a pipeline — where the mechanical and electrical scope sits with another contractor or with the client's own team. We coordinate cast-in items with whoever holds that scope.

Yes, as part of a planned temporary works approach. Excavation support, shoring and dewatering are designed for the ground conditions and depth rather than improvised on site, and the arrangement is included in the method statement before work begins.
